Ownership Driven Leadership

The CENTRE FOR LEADERSHIP & COACHING is dedicated to building leadership capacity amongst business and community leaders/politicians. We develop those who are prepared to lead and transform themselves and their people in the process.

Drawing on an integrative approach to leadership from a variety of models, the Centre for Leadership & Coaching is committed to advancing effective, ethical leadership by providing:

A new leadership model designed to cater for times of constant change and crises;
Flexible training methodology to best suit our clients’ needs;
Specialised leadership coaching by COMENSA credentialed coaches;
Advice and guidance in performance management, labour issues and workplace difficulties.

NEW CHALLENGES. NEW APPROACH!

Ownership-Driven Leadership, has been designed around Claudio Chiste’s INTERNATIONAL Award-winning book:

WHY OWNERSHIP-DRIVEN LEADERSHIP?

Managers and senior executives often find themselves too busy to take the time off work to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to become effective leaders.

Unfortunately, this often results in off-the-job classroom training being condensed. Training either contains too much information for the manager to absorb in the time available, or vital material is omitted or skimmed over and lost.

THE SOLUTION

The Centre for Leadership & Coaching has therefore adapted its Ownership-Driven Leadership training programme into a blended, self-learning/training/coaching intervention.
Key subjects are covered via individual reading and practical assignments backed by a series of short 1 to 2-hour workshops, group discussions, individual and team coaching. The training may be conducted online or in person by one of our subject matter experts.

OWNERSHIP-DRIVEN LEADERSHIP enables leaders to:

Engender ACCOUNTABILITY
Instil ownership within the organisation to ensure;
optimum performance; employees, at all levels, feel like stakeholders and take accountability for, and are held accountable for, their contribution.;

Build TRUST
Create an environment of trust whereby people throughout the organisation believe that their managers and colleagues have their best interests at heart. This is underpinned by the Warrior Ethos.

Ensure PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY
Enable a psychologically safe environment for employees to feel safe to think, speak up, ask questions and express their views, even when differing from the leader or team.

Drive COMMITMENT
Align intrinsic motivation of employees to the organisational goals to drive commitment where employees are willing to ‘walk the extra mile’.

SELF-REFLECT to understand WHO they are and WHAT they want in life. Leadership has two aspects – WHO you are and WHAT you do. Learning only takes place when a person reflects on a situation to identify what they can take from it.

Strengthen RESILIENCE
Build resilience amongst employees that enables them to endure the stress and demands of the VUCA world we live in.

LEARNING PROGRAMME
The new learning programme, aligned to the National certificate; Generic Management 59201 (NQF Level 5) is aimed at Executives, Senior and Middle Managers consists of eight modules covering:

Facilitating Skills for Managers features a unique methodology used in all the workshops and includes problem solving using various models and techniques; speed reading; facilitating group discussions; managing group dynamics; assessing performance and providing constructive feedback; questioning techniques and, most importantly, listening to understand.

The Concept of Leadership covering various leadership theories and models, including Kimball Fisher’s Self-Directed Work Teams; John Adair’s Functional Leadership, Hersey and Blanchard’s Situational Leadership and Goleman’s EI leadership

Mental Toughness for Leadership with information and exercises designed to enable the manager to manage motions, particularly fear; self-reflect; decide on what sort of leader they want to be and undertake a self-transformation process to become the person they want to be.

Servant & Steward Leadership including understanding the difference between Servant and Steward Leadership which forms part of Chiste’s Ownership Driven Leadership model. Authenticity is critical to good leadership.

Warrior Leadership including understanding the Mission and Commander’s Intent with its link to Steward Leadership and Chiste’s Ownership Driven Leadership model in times of crisis.

Inspiring Ownership including understanding the Ownership Driven Leadership model and the principles behind leading during a crisis. This module also covers Jung’s concept of the Shadow and how leadership failures occur. It also covers self-reflection with view to self-actualisation.

Strategic Leadership which will enable you to develop a business focus, strategy, goals and action plans for you personally and for your area of responsibility.

Systems, Networking & Relationships including applying a systems approach to decision making, taking knock-on effects of decisions into consideration. The module also covers how to develop social and business networks and to manage upwards in order to build positive business relationships.

We are flexible in our approach, if your managers have been exposed to leadership theories, these can be omitted, thus saving unnecessary repetition.

HOW IT WORKS

A commitment is entered into by the manager and employer for a given period (Twelve months is recommended but this can be reduced to suit the circumstances.)

A coaching programme will be agreed, based on each manager’s needs. Appropriate material can be selected from the above programmes and other programmes the Centre for Leadership offers.

During the blended training/coaching intervention the manager will have access to the following:

Workshops. These will consist of a series of structured 1 to 2-hour on-line workshops to be arranged at suitable times;

Training material. User-friendly reading material, quizzes and self-assessments will be made available;

Group discussions. To ensure understanding, group discussions on material covered will be arranged at suitable intervals;

Coaching sessions. To further aid learning and unlock potential to maximize individual or team performance, coaching sessions with a COMENSA credentialed coach will be arranged to suit operational requirements;

Workplace assignments. The manager will be required to undertake workplace assignments aimed at both their own personal development, as well as bringing about positive changes in the workplace;

Telephone support. Have telephone access to a coach or mentor in order to discuss problems and issues which may arise in the course of their personal development and work;

Policy templates. Have access to templates of policies and procedures as well as working documents such as Self-Development Plans, coaching contracts various forms, etc.

FEEDBACK

Regular meetings will be arranged at least once every two months between the facilitator/coach, managers and the senior managers to whom they report (and HR representative if desired) to discuss:

  • The manager’s progress.
  • Learning priorities – the schedule is reasonably flexible and may be adapted to suit the employer’s priorities.
  • Workplace Assignments in relation to the manager’s job requirements so the manager is not overloaded.
  • Performance barriers and issues in the workplace that need to be addressed.

FLEXIBILITY

If managers have already done aspects of the training, they will be free to choose what material they want covered in the Intervention.
